Evaluation of Multi-Camera Production (Advert)

About Production:

The advert is on the multi-camera production which is called Tic Toc Tiny, and it's about the education of children that watch the program. The presenters of the show teach the children how to count, say their A B C's and they also had to guess what shapes the presenters were holding in their hand. This would activate to children's mind and actually get them thinking about what the presenters are talking about. The show is aimed at 5-8 years of age and any gender would be able to watch it because aimed for boys and girls.

Promo:

My group and I created a advert for Tic Toc Tiny, so that it would create awareness to the parents and children that the show actually does exist, this would bring up the number of views that we get because more people will know what the show has to offer and how it can help their children. We had to create two adverts for our production. One was a normal ad which the presenters would introduce the show and what they would include in the show. The second ad has to also be about the show, but without the presenters actually saying what it is about, instead of the presenters we needed someone to do a voice over on the ad talking about what the show is about and what the show has to offer.

Action Points (what we have to complete)

What my group and I have yet to complete was the voice over. The reason for this is because we took quite a long time to complete the advert since our presenters had lessons most of the time, so we didn't get that much film time. This was a big problem because this was just wasting a lot of time and we also had a due date for the adverts, so that just put more pressure on my group and I. We also had to make a lot of things that we haven't even started making yet. For example, a backdrop, which is something that goes behind the presenters, so that the children would not think its plain and boring. A cut out version of our logo so that it can be in our shots and we also needed to get props, like toys or teddies so that we could introduce them as actual people in our production.

Pre-production:

The Pre-production stage is where my group and I would have to plan, where the promo should be filmed, what should be said, and what it should consist of. I decided to film the promo in the same place where the actual production would be, so that it can be familiar for the audience. My group and I had great communication and team work skills, this actually made us progress faster with the work which was assigned to us, so even though we had disadvantages of our camera men and editor not being in, we managed to prevent less work being made by looking at our contingency plan that we have created and making a few changes, which made us get a good amount of work made.

Production:

We had many rehearsals that did not really involve our presenters that much because they would have lesson. However, my group and I had cue cards for the presenters to read off so we didn't really need them as much in the beginning because we needed to think for what they would have to say for the promo (advert). The promo was simple because it was just the presenters talking about what the show is about and introducing themselves to the people who will watch the show.

Post Production:

This is also the editing stage, where we get all the clips from the cameras that we have used and put them on to the mac. The software the editor has used was final cut pro, which is a video editing software program, this would put all the clips together and allow the promo to run as smoothly as possible. A positive towards the editing is that in our group we have someone who's really good with final cut pro and good at getting the clips together, and also he is good with the animation, which would make it better for the children watching because it would be more understandable if some of the children don't really understand English or they prefer to read other than listening to the presenters. Also, the editor has his own mac laptop, which we saved our footage on, this is beneficial because he would be able to get on with the editing in his spare time when he is at home. However, the disadvantage to saving the work on the laptop was that our editor would not come in on days, which was a problem because he would not have the additional footage we would have.

Evaluation of the TV advert

Stefan Christophides

Product: Jxt Blxck

About the ad and product:

My group and I have chosen to do a TV advert about a clothing line called ‘Jxt Blxck’. Jxt Blxck is a clothing line that was thought of and made by two people in year 13 (Richard and Darrel). Since, the product was created by teenagers, the product is mostly aimed to teenagers and young people, but it is multicultural, which tells us that anyone is able to buy it. In this advert we were only presenting the illuminous jacket for mainly male teens and above.

Production:

We will shoot our film on December 18th 2015. The reason why we have chosen this date was because everyone was free to come to our location. We tried to film the advert on different dates, but it did not really work out, since, not everyone could make it. The TV advert was filmed around 5 o'clock and it took us around 2 - 3 hours to finish the advert and additional 2 hours to set up the cameras and lighting.

Target Audience:

Our TV Advert would be aimed at teenagers, which are from different cultures because we would not want to advertise a clothing line, which is only aimed at a certain group of people. We are going to show this by having a variety of different people with different backgrounds showing of the clothes. It is easier for teenagers to find the clothes that we are producing an advert about because most of them have Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook, and on the advert it has these different social apps.

Our secondary audience would be adults (21-35) because they might also be interested in the clothing line because it’s also clothing that will look good and suit older people. Another, reason why adults would buy the clothing product is because more and more adults are getting influenced by the youth today and starting to wear what teens wear, this would be the reason why adults would be our secondary audience.

The people who would probably not buy the product at all would be the elderly. The reason for this is because when they were around the age of 13-19 everything was much different to them. For example, clothes, entertainment and socialising. This might discourage them from buying the product or they are just not interested. Furthermore, the elderly find it harder to use the internet and new technology, so they probably might not even know about the product.

Advantages/Strengths:

To make sure that we get our TV advert to the best it can be my group and I had met up on different days to make sure that we knew exactly what we was doing and to make sure that our advert could persuade people to buy the product. Moreover, another advantage is that the two people who created Jxt Blxck already had social apps, such as Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram, which made it easier for my group and me because at the end of the ad we just had to add the names at the end.

It was also an advantage for the CEO’s (Richard and Darrel) because they were able to have the advert for their business, which has had a big impact. The reason for this is because more people can see how the product looks on someone and they can find out more information by going on the different sites and being able to see all the different products.

Disadvantages/Weaknesses:

However, there has been a few disadvantages and hold backs due to our planning. For example, my group and I spent a long time trying to find out where the location should be, which cut our time much shorter. This gave us less time to plan and film, but we overcame this by talking everyday and getting back our time. Other than that my group and i did not have anymore disadvantages to worry about and we managed to complete the advert.

 Evaluation of Signs

About signs:

Signs is a romantic short film. It’s also a 12 minute speechless film. We have started filming the short movie for Signs. The two main characters are named Jason and Stacey. The short movie is about a man who works in a company and at first he starts of as a character who keeps to himself and is quite lonely. However, during his time at work he meets a women who works in the company opposite to where he works, and the way he communicates to the women is by writing on paper. Half way through the movie the women is nowhere to be seen and the man starts feeling the way he was at the beginning of the movie. The producer shows this by music; at the beginning the music was slow and quite saddening, however, when he meets the women the music becomes much faster, upbeat and happier, but when the women gets her promotion, the man has no idea and thought that he will never see her again, which then lead to the music becoming slow and sad once again. At the end of the short film both decide to meet each other in the middle of the road between their two companies, they both looked very happy to see each other and then that was the end of the short movie by Patrick Hughes.

For this first assignment my group and I have to recreate 3 minutes of the short movie. We have chosen to film from 4 minute 21 seconds to 7 minutes 21 seconds. My group consists of myself, Twariq and Philip. The film also consists of additional actors that will just be in the background but the film will also consist of a girl that can play the lead role of the women who falls in love with the male actor.

Different shots used:

The short movie also consists of many different shots. For example, the shots that were used was mid shot, wide shot, long shot, over the shoulder shot and close up shot. All these different shots allows the audience to get the full experience of the short movie. This means that because of the multi-camera shots it allows the viewers to actually think that they are there and are involved in the film. By using different camera shots it allows the audience to see the different emotions and expressions that the characters are portraying. This is effective because it allows the audience to see how the characters are feeling at different and specific times of the short movie.

Teamwork:

In this assignment for media I had to work In a group, which had to make me more confident, so that I could give my ideas for the production. I also had to take the leadership role because we needed to set times for when we was going to film and we also needed to set up meetings with teachers, for example, The Head Teacher, so that we could ask for permission to use for his conference room, which our short movie production needed. Since we had only three in our group we needed additional actors and actresses, which had increased the responsibility levels for myself and my group because we had to find out when they were free to film,  and what they needed to do in the scenes.

Advantages/Strengths:

When my group and I got the assignment to film a short 3 minute film, we got straight on it. The first thing we done was book a meeting with our head teacher so that we could ask him if we could borrow his conference room, so that we can use it to film the part where the man (Jason) is in the conference room playing noughts and crosses with the girl (Stacey). We also had many strengths that came with our group because we had someone good with the camera and editing, and we had good actors/actresses and people that had great ideas, we also had someone that was a good leader (director) who got things done. Since, we are in a school, so we have a lot of space and a variety different areas to film that will suit our needs and will look similar to the actual places in the film.

Disadvantage/Weaknesses:

During, the time when my group and I were filming and editing our short movie, we unfortunately lost a few of our clips and a week before this our Mac computer shut down completely. So, as you can probably tell my group and I were very unlucky during this media assignment. However, luckily the technicians got the mac running, but we could not get the footage that we got back so we had to quickly film the parts we lost again, and with only a little bit of time left to finish this assignment it was quite challenging.

Qualitative:
Qualitative data/research is when someone does not require the measurement. It mostly consists of facts and information, the way someone can get this information is by an interview and/or questionnaire. The way you can remember this is by using the word quality, which represents the word qualitative.

Quantitative:
Quantitative data/research on the other hand uses measurements because it consists of numbers, statistics and figures. People can also get this by questionnaires and then putting their results in excel and putting them into graphs, pie charts and/or bar charts. The word that can represent quantitative is quantity that links back to numbers.

Reliable:
This means when a person, data and/or facts is seen as trusted, and able to use in your research. It also means that it is consistently good in quality and/or performance. Also, to find out if something is reliable you can keep testing, whatever, you are doing. For example, scientists will carry out experiments and to find out if it is reliable they would keep testing it out three times and if they get the same or similar results, it is seen as reliable.

Validity:
Validity means when something is acceptable and you are able to use there and then. If it is invalid, this means that you are not able to use it because it either expired or not up to date. For example, if you have a train ticket and the departure time is at 5 o’clock and you get at the station at around 4:30, your ticket will be valid, but if you get there after 5 the ticket will be invalid.

Primary Research:

This is also known as field research because to get the information you need you will have to go out to the public and get the information by interviewing, and questionnaires. An advantage of using primary data is that the researcher will be able to focus on both qualitative and quantitative issues. However, primary research can be more expensive than secondary research.

Secondary Research:

This is known as desk research because you don't have to go out and get the information. The reason for this is because you are able to gather information that already exists. This includes reports from a library, already made surveys and the internet.

Why are multi-camera techniques used?

Multi-camera is where several cameras are set up to on the set and simultaneously record or broadcast a scene.

Multi-cameras are used to give people who are watching TV at home a better experience of what is happening in the film, show and/or live performance. The reason for this is because if people used a single camera it wouldn’t be as effective because you would have to keep stopping the camera and changing the characters position, whereas, if you have multi-camera shot it is able to show different angles of the actors/actresses.

The advantages of using multi-camera shots is that it uses more than just one camera, so this allows it to cover more area of the stage or wherever the cameras are placed. Also, since you are using more than one camera, you can use it for different shots for each camera, this will allow the audience to see reactions and emotions through different angles, and the transitions from one person to another will be smoother as they film the whole thing together than shooting one person and then re-doing it to film the other person. It will also be quicker to film as they do not have to re-do the same scene over and over to get each piece of footage like they would do it they were using a single camera.

However, the disadvantage of using multi-cameras is that it takes longer to set up due to the large amount of equipment. It’s also more expensive than single camera because there are more than one camera people would be using. Furthermore, directors would only be able to use this in studios as it wouldn’t be possible to be used outdoors, and it also hard for the people to hide the other equipment because there are many cameras, so it could pick up equipment in the shot.

Media Homework
Final Cut Pro and IMovie

Final Cut Pro:
When you first use final cut pro it will be a little bit different to a person’s one if they have used it before because they might already have libraries loaded up. To load in footage you will have to create an event, so to do that you’ll need to click file and press new event or you can simply press right click on your mouse and select new event, or if you are really good you can use option N, which will allow you to name the event, choose what library you would like to save it in (this is where your video will be stored).
To upload the media you can go to file, then there will be an option to input media, this will bring up the media import window where you can see all connected devices. This will allow you to choose the click you would want to use for your video; when you choose the click it will allow you to store it in the library you would like to save in. You can either handle all the clips yourself or rely on final cut pro to handle it its self.
After this your footage will be imported. You can either choose to see the pictures of the clip or if you don’t you can click a button, which will allow you to have a list view of the media you have uploaded.
Now you can start to place the clips you have in the final cut pro timeline and to find out what clip you actually want to use you can click the spacebar to see what the clip it actually is and if you would like to use it. To bring the clip into the storyline you can click and drag the clip from the browser (this is where clips are found). This will then play on the viewer, which is where the clip will be played and shown.
On the right hand side of the screen when you are using final cut pro there is a button that will allow to cut parts of the clips you don’t want which then can be deleted when you right click that part of the clip you don’t want and press delete. You can also adjust the sound, but if you don’t want to use the sound from the clip you can press the little music note icon, which will allow you to choose a piece of music you already have on your computer.
iMovie:
IMovie is a video editing application developed by Apple. With iMovie, you can import images, video and audio to create professional-looking movies at a fraction of the cost of a Hollywood blockbuster.
When you load up iMovie you will have to click file and select import media so that you are able to extract media from your computer or device to IMovie, this will then allow you to choose what clip you would like to move from your computer to IMovie. After, you choose the clip you would like to use, you will have the option to save it in a device you have saved on iMovie. iMovie practically has the same form of layout as final cut pro, but in my opinion final cut pro is more complex and advanced than IMovie.
Similarly, you will have to create an event for your library so that you can save the movie that you are going to make into that library.
    • The first time you import video from your camera, there won’t be any existing events in your Event Library.
    • To create a new event, type a name for it in the “Create new Event” field.
    • If you’re importing video that recorded on different days, you can have iMovie create a new Event for each of those days by selecting

When you have all your videos imported and you used different videos from different days and put them together, the movie is most likely going to be rough and not play that well. If you would like to fix that you can click settings on the top right hand corner, which will allow you to press stabilization, this will smooth any shaky cam motion.

Advantages
·         Final cut pro has a lot of editing features in comparison to iMovie. However, this could make it more difficult for the user to use as it may be a bit to complex.
·         You can add more clips onto your timeline in comparison to iMovie. (You can only add 18 clips on iMovie)
·         You can have as many soundtracks as you want or need in comparison to iMovie.
Disadvantages
·         Final cut pro takes a lot more time to compose in comparison to iMovie
·         iMovie is easier and more simple than final cut pro

·         Both final cut pro and iMovie can sometimes corrupts your file if it isn’t saved properly
