Proposal

Format: TV Advert

Working Title: Jet Black
Audience: Our TV Advert would be aimed at teenagers, which are from different cultures because we would not want to advertise a clothing line, which is only aimed at a certain group of people. We are going to show this by having a variety of different people with different backgrounds showing of the clothes.
Our secondary audience would be adults because they might also be interested in the clothing line because it’s also clothing that will look good and suit older people.
Locations: The advert will take place in St Thomas More Catholic School playground. The time would be around 4 or 5 (pm). The reason for this is because now it’s getting dark quicker because it’s getting close to winter (November 24), so we would to get a dark effect, which then we put lights out, this would show our actors better and the product they are planning to wear.

Preparation plan: What do you need to do to prepare for the shoot? What is your time frame?
We need the:
  • Product (Clothing)
  • Lighting
  • Camera
  • Actors
  • Music
  • Tripod

Production: When will you shoot your film and how long will it take?
We will shoot our film on December 18th 2015. The reason why we have chose this date was because everyone was free to come to our location. We tried to film the advert on different dates, but it did not really work out, since, not everyone could make it. The TV advert was filmed around 5 o'clock and it took us around 2 - 3 hours to finish the advert and additional 2 hours to set up the cameras and lighting.

Final cut: What will the editing process be? How long will it take? What equipment will you need?
The editing process took around 5 hours to complete. We had to use a Mac laptop, after effects, final cut pro (x and 7), and we took three weeks to complete the post production stage.

Should TV adverts have age ratings?

In my opinion, i would say that TV adverts should not bother with age ratings because i don't think the person would be bothered to stand up and actually leave the room when a TV advert is age 12A or 15. Also, most disturbing or not age appropriate TV adverts would not be on at times when children are watching TV. For example, in the morning when kids go and watch programs or during the evening when they are about to go bed, no company is just going to put inappropriate adverts on, so that the children can see. This is one of the reasons for why they shouldn't be bothered to put on age restrictions.

However, some people may agree on putting on age restrictions on certain TV adverts because they might think that adverts like trailers or even ones when people are shown dead because of car accidents and smoking, the reason for this is because parents don't want their child watching these kind of things. For example, if a trailer comes on and it's age 15 and there is swearing and violent scenes; parents don't want their child mirroring the actions that other people are doing and if they do learn the things that are shown on TV, they could go to school and start being a bad influence on the other students and start getting into trouble. This could be a reason for why people do want age restrictions on TV adverts.

A Kazam mobile phone ad showing a half-naked woman

This is one of the adverts that the ASA had to ban off UK TV because they had complaints that it was too revealing for young children, so because of this complaint they had to take off the advert from the TV.

In my opinion, i would say that there is no point to have age restrictions on TV ads and trailers because people will not have the time to turn the channel and young children will not even know what the ad will be about or won't even understand the trailer that comes on. That's why I say that there would be no point for there to be age restrictions on ads and trailers.

Introduction to Signs

Media: Short movie (Signs)
Year 12

We have started filming the short movie for Signs. The short movie is about a man who works in a company and at first he starts of as a character who keeps to himself and is quite lonely. However, during his time at work he meets a women who works in the company opposite to where he works, and the way he communicates to the women is by writing on paper. Half way through the movie the women is no where to be seen and the man starts feeling the way he was at the beginning of the movie. The producer shows this by music; at the beginning the music was slow and quite saddening, however, when he meets the women the music becomes much faster, up beat and happier, but when the women gets her promotion, the man has no idea and thought that he will never see her again, which then lead to the music becoming slow and sad once again.
At the end of the short film both decide to meet each other in the middle of the road between their two companies, they both looked very happy to see each other and then that was the end of the short movie by Patrick Hughes.

For this first assignment my group and i have to recreate 3 minutes of the short movie. We have chosen to film from 4 minute 21 seconds to 7 minutes 21 seconds. My group consists of myself, Twariq and Philip. The film also consists of additional actors that will just be in the background but the film will also consist of a girl that can play the lead role of the women who falls in love with the male actor.
